Shrinkage of the population: also in Twente
Linda van Asselt (project leader of the pilot ‘innovative housing’ in Twente) was interviewed about the situation of demographic change in Twente. The interview was published on March the 14th in the regional newspaper in Twente. This daily newspaper has in Twente a circulation of 120.000 copies.
In this interview Linda tells about the situation on the housing market in Twente. The municipalities in Twente had al lot of plans for building new houses. For the next ten years they have 40.000 new houses in their plans. Because of this demographic change there is no need anymore for so many houses (13.000 new houses till 2020). The project of DC NOISE helps to raise awareness about the declining growth of households.
Linda describes how the DC NOISE project has contributed to a situation that the stakeholders in Twente more and more realize that the future developments are different then it was in the past. Growth is not a common fact anymore. The mindset in Twente has to change (and luckily it is already changing). In the past we always put all the effort in quantity, but now we have the opportunity to put quality on the first place!
