Paper: effects on labour market
On request of the Interreg IVB North Sea Secretariat in Viborg, Dr. Frans Coenen from the University of Twente, being one of the (sub-) partners in DC NOISE Twente, and transnational project leader Roos Galjaard produced a paper on dealing with the effects of demographic change on the labour market. The abstract of the paper was presented and discussed during the North Sea Region Programme Annual Conference on 24 June 2009 in Egmond aan Zee, NL. The paper is based on the first results of the labour market demonstration projects within DC NOISE. The paper addresses the question what can local and regional actors do to overcome the negative effects of demographic change on the labour market and seize opportunities of demographic change? It discusses the changes in the regional workforce through demographic change and the relation to measures in the demonstration projects with the help of a simple input and output model, presenting the regional workforce as a stock of people. Measures within the demonstration projects will be described to illustrate how negative effects can be overcome and opportunities can be seized. Read the whole paper.
