Healthcare strategy in East Groningen - review
The demonstration project “Healthcare strategy in East Groningen" was presented at the DC NOISE partner meeting October 6th, and the following review is based on the presentation by East-Groningen and the comments and recommendations of the peer review panel. The pilot aims at promoting long-term retention of people in the region by offering them training and / or guiding them towards health care jobs. This will encourage people to work within health care and help tackle problems of labour shortage in the health care sector.
The project will help improve a match between education and employment by developing training courses to qualify new and existing workers to different levels. In order to ensure a fit between demand and supply, the quantitative and qualitative need for personnel will be closely investigated, along with recruitment and training of personnel. Vulnerable groups such as long-term unemployed, benefits recipients, non-benefits recipients, school dropouts and immigrants are among the target groups, and will be offered tailor made training courses. Measures to retain older employees and to activate volunteers might increase participation of older people in the labour market.
Raising awareness about future labour shortages as a consequence of demographic change is a central aim, and will be achieved through close collaboration between local authorities, institutional boards and other relevant stakeholders. The results from the project will be embedded in local and regional policies by establishing sustainable collaboration between the relevant stakeholders.
The recommendations of peer review panel have been incorporated into the project plan, and in addition to the original pilot plan, the partner will pursue several actions that are in line with those recommendations. Among those actions is the design of a communication plan distinguishing among the various target groups. A sustainable collaboration structure will be established by joining up or elaborating existing collaboration, and as a means of achieving that, the partner will carry out an investigation of existing collaboration structures in the region.
